Update to iOS 6 on iPhone 4s, 4, 3GS, iPad 3, 2 and iPod Touch 4G

How to prepare to update to iOS 6:

You should backup your data like contacts, music, apps etc, then update your iDevice to iOS 6.  If you gonna upgrade / update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 6 you should. Listed below are three methods for backing up your data.

1st method for backing up – Hard Backup:

This the most common method, all you have to do is to connect your iDevice to your PC via USB and launch iTunes then choose your device from the left sidebar, right-click > Back Up.

2nd method for backing up – Soft Backup (Recommended):
With this method, backup your device manually, the important files like (contacts, music, photos or whatever). To do this, connect your iDevice to your PC with USB cable, then click on Info tap as shown in the below screenshot then click Sync contacts and sync them with your PC, now your contacts have been synced to your computer. After updating to iOS 6, just re-sync your iDevice with iTunes this will install your backup to your device

You can do the same with music, just go to Music tap and Sync your music with your PC. You can do this with your apps from the Apps tap or with photos from the Photos tap and so on.
3rd method for backing up – iCloud:
If you have iCloud account (for iOS 5 or later), just make sure that iCloud has backed up your contacts, apps etc. Tap on Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage.
Once you update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 6, open iCloud account and it will install your contacts, apps and all your baked up data.
How to Update to iOS 6 – iPhone / iPad / iPod touch:
We have different methods for updating to iOS 6, the first method is to update to iOS 6 using iTunes and the second method is to update to iOS 6 without iTunes with the help of OTA (Over-the-Air) update:
1st method – Update to iOS 6 – with iTunes:
Step 1: Download iOS 6 ipsw firmware for your iDevice.
Step 2: Download iTunes 10.7 for Windows / Mac
Step 3: Plug your iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad 3 (The new iPad), 2 or iPod touch 4G, then click on your iDevice form the left sidebar of iTunes.
Step 4: Now you have to restore your iDevice to iOS 6. Hold (Alt in Mac) (Shift in Windows) and click on the ‘restore’ button then point it to iOS 6 ipsw file you downloaded. Wait for between 10 and 15 minutes for the new iOS 6 to be moved over.
2nd method – Update to iOS 6 using OTA – Over The Air update (without iTunes):
There are two important notices for updating to iOS 6 over the air, your iDevice MUST not be jailbroken and it must be running iOS 5 or later.
Step 1: From home screen, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install
Step 2: In few minutes your iDevice will be updated to iOS 6.
Possible issues: If you are receiving "An internal error occurred." (3200 or 3004) this means Apple’s servers are to busy to deal with your restore request. Try again later.
Important Notes:
  • iOS 6 isn't jailbreakable yet, so by updating to iOS 6, you will lose your jailbreak.
  • iPhone users who rely on unlock (unofficial carriers) using SAM, Gevey SIM, ultrasn0w or any unlock solution MUST avoid updating to iOS 6 until the official word from iPhone Dev-team.
